Frank Horsepool was born in 1898, the son of Ellis Horsepool and Mary Jane Burkitt. Originally from Wisbech, Ellis was a bricklayer and work took him to Sheffield where he settled and brought up the family. Frank married Florence Berry in 1921 and they had a daughter Peggy born in 1922.
Martlesham Heath Aeroplane and Armament Experimental Establishment where Frank Horsepool worked carried out the evaluation and testing of many of the aircraft types and much of the armament and other equipment that would later be used during World War II.
AIRCRAFTSMAN DEAD IN BATH.
Inquiry into Camp Mystery to Open To-night.
Leading Aircraftsman Frank Horsepool (34), stationed at Marplesham Experimental Air Station, was yesterday found dead by two airmen in a bath at the camp. The medical officer, who was summoned stated that death had taken place several hours before the discovery was made. There was an abrasion on Horsepool's nose and blood on the top part of the bath. The body was discovered with the head and shoulder immersed under the water. Horsepool was partly dressed in shirt. trousers and one boot. His wife resides at Heeley, Sheffield.
